YaMa Foundation is a non-profit, non-governmental and apolitical organisation. YaMa means “Shield” in native shona. The foundation’s objectives are to:

The foundation has a defined target group: rural women, the girl-child, women living with HIV/AIDS, out of school female youths and the girl child orphans.
The Foundation acts as a "voice" for rural women and girls and also contributes in the areas of gender inequality and to promote income generating activities for the rural women.
- Raise the development potential of the rural women to enable them lead an adequate and self-sustainable life in the society through various income generating activities;
- Create appropriate educational and hygienic infrastructure;
- Construct appropriate water and sanitation infrastructure and;
- Provision of legal support for the rural women
